Free Giraffe Crochet Pattern!
So this is what you'll need for a super cute giraffe! : . Crochet hook (I used a 3.5mm)
. Yarn in yellow
. Yarn in beige/cream
. Yarn in brown (I used DK yarns for this project)
. Safety eyes
. Toy stuffing . Pair of scissors
. Yarn needle
. Stitch markers (optional)
. Time: Obviously, how long this project takes you will depend on how fast you can crochet, but it takes me around 5-6 hours, at an average pace, as a guide for you.
Abbreviations used: (US terminology)
Sc - single crochet
Hdc - half double crochet
Dc - double crochet
Sc2ins - single crochet 2 in the next stitch (increase)
Sc2tog - single crochet 2 together (decrease)
St - stitch
Sl st - slip stitch
Ch - chain
*.....* - repeat inside *
BO - Bind off / Fasten off.
Using the hook and yarn that I did, your giraffe will end up being just shy of 1 foot tall, and 8 inches long, from nose to back of body.
So let's begin! Body: With yellow yarn: Make 6sc in a magic ring / other ring. (6)
1. *sc2ins*; repeat * around (12)
2. *sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (18)
3. *2sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (24)
4. *3sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (30)
5. *4sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (36)
6. *5sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (42)
7-26. Sc around for 20 rows
27. *5sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (36)
28. *4sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (30)
29. *3sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (24)
30. *2sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (18)
Start stuffing with toy stuffing
31. *sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (12)
32. *sc2tog*; repeat * around (6)
Finish stuffing final bits, and use yarn needle to close up the remaining 6 sts. BO
Legs: (make 4 the same)
With brown yarn: Make 6sc in a magic ring / other ring. (6)
1. *sc2ins*; repeat * around (12)
2. *sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (18)
3-4. Sc around for 2 rows, sl st last st with yellow
Continuing with yellow yarn: 5-19. Sc around for 15 rows.
Sl st very last st.
Stuff with toy stuffing, and BO leaving tail to attach to body.
Head:
With yellow yarn:
Make 6sc in a magic ring / other ring. (6)
1. *sc2ins*; repeat * around (12)
2. *sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (18)
3. *2sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (24)
4. *3sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (30)
5-11. Sc around for 7 rows
12. *4sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (36)
13-15. Sc around for 3 rows
16. *5sc; sc2ins*; repeat * around (42)
Change to beige / cream yarn for the nose.
17-18. Sc around for 2 rows
19. *5sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (36)
20. *4sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (30)
21. *3sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (24)
22. *2sc; sc2tog*; repeat * around (18)
Start stuffing with toy stuffing, and add safety eyes. You could also use French knots instead of safety eyes if you prefer.

Finish stuffing final bits, and use yarn needle to close up the remaining 6 sts. BO
Neck:
With yellow yarn: (with the neck, it helps to stuff it as you go along) Make 8sc in a magic ring / other ring. Sl st, ch1(8)
1. *sc2ins*; repeat * around; Sl st the last st, ch1 (16)
2. Sc around through the back loop only, sl st the last st, ch1 (16)
3-4. Sc around for 2 rows
5. sc15; sc2ins. (17)
6-8. Sc around for 3 rows (17)
9. sc16; sc2ins (18)
10-12. Sc around for 3 rows (18)
13. sc17; sc2ins (19)
14-16. Sc around for 3 rows (19)
17. sc18; sc2ins (20)
18-20. Sc around for 3 rows (20)
21. sc19; sc2ins (21)
22-24. Sc around for 3 rows (21)
25. sc20; sc2ins (22)
26-28. Sc around for 3 rows (22)
Finish last stuffing, and BO leaving long tail to attach to body.
Horns: (make 2 the same) With beige / cream yarn:
Make 6sc in a magic ring / other ring. (6)
1. *sc2ins*; repeat * around (12)
2-6. Sc around for 5 rows (12)
Add a little toy stuffing, and BO leaving long tail to attach to head
Ears: (make 2 the same) With yellow yarn: Ch9 Dc in 4th ch from hook, 2 hdc, 2sc, then in final st: 2 sl st. Turn your work 180 so that you are working in the opposite side of the chains
2sc; 2hdc; dc; ch3, sl st into the same st as the dc, and BO leaving long tail to attach to head
Tail:
With yellow yarn: Ch16
Sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc across with 2 sc in last st
Turn your work 180 so that you are working in the opposite side of the chains
Sc across, with 2sc in last st, sl st to join, and BO leaving tail to attach to body.
Pom pom for tail: With brown yarn: Make 6sc in a magic ring / other ring. (6)
1. *sc2ins*; repeat * around (12)
2-4. Sc around for 2 rows (12)
5. *sc2tog*; repeat * around (6)
Add a little toy stuffing, and use yarn needle to close up the remaining 6 sts. BO leaving tail to attach to tail.
Brown patch #1: (make as many as you would like to sew on. I used 2 of these) With brown yarn: Make 6sc in a magic ring / other ring. (6)

BO leaving tail to attach to giraffe.

Now all the parts are complete, use the picture above as a guide to sew all of your parts together! The small brown patches can go anywhere at all on your giraffe; on his body, his neck, his legs, his head, anywhere! Be creative with your positioning, and make your giraffe unique! ^_^
